Daydreaming of having a toned belly just in time for fun at the beach? Wanting to pull off wearing those steamy pair of skinny jeans? Nobody wants to be overweight and be laughed at. This is especially true in a society where good looks count a lot. But aside from making you look pleasing, losing excess weight contributes a lot to your health.

Being overweight is linked to a lot of diseases. In the US alone, heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of deaths. And you are highly at risk for both when you are overweight. There are also certain forms of cancers which are linked to obesity. Many experts believe that losing weight will curtail development of osteoarthritis.

Startling, isn’t it? Now don’t go subscribing to diets or supplements promising quick weight loss just to spare yourself from all those problems. The truth is there are no quick fixes, especially when it comes to losing weight. Still, the best way to get rid of your excess baggage is through safe and effective means. And they are: having healthy eating habits and regular dose of exercise.

Be wary of what you put in your mouth. Try to stay away from those fast foods overflowing with fats and calories. It’s much better if you will take time to making your own chow. There are plenty of weight-watcher’s recipe books available at bookstores or on the net. Browsing through their pages will assure you that lean meat, veggies and fruits need not be boring to eat.

Exercising will strengthen your heart and lungs, and improve your immune system. It’s also a great way to burn those excess calories and fats, so you lose weight effectively. Try to exercise for at least 20 minutes a day, at least 5 times a week. You can wear women’s or men’s sport watch as you do fun exercises to time your progress. You got plenty of choices: brisk walking, biking, swimming, dancing and many others.

Losing all those excess pounds can improve your overall health. You will feel more energetic throughout the day, enabling you to be productive. At night, you will notice that you are able to sleep so much better. Plus you wake up the next day feeling completely rejuvenated.

Sure tight tees look good on someone with toned abs, and women’s brown boots look fab on a lean pair of legs. Looking good physically is just one of the perks of weight loss. More importantly than that, life-threatening health problems are kept at bay.
