Chocolate has many different benefits because it is full of antioxidants that are great for your immune system due to the fact that they lower your risk for any infection. There are several other benefits and discoveries that have been made in regards to eating chocolate.
A study conducted at the University of Oslo in Norway showed that a connection can be found between the brain function in elderly people and chocolate cocoa. There research consisted of them doing a cognitive study before and after the person ate chocolate. The results from the tests were better than after the person being tested ate chocolate. Dark chocolate was also discovered to be helpful in patients who suffered from stroke and dementia because of the way the blood flow was decreased from eating chocolate.
Chocolate has also been found to be good for the heart. The tests conducted for this showed that patients that ate chocolate on at a regular consistency were less likely to die after having their first heart attack. Patients were given a questionnaire to fill out after their confirmed heart attack to see just how much chocolate they were eating.
There is a compound in chocolate that is called theobromine that was discovered by a doctoral candidate to in fact harden tooth enamel and in doing so it will also help to prevent cavities. They are considering adding this powdery substance to toothpaste in the future. Normal consumption of cocoa can also help to protect skin against ultraviolet lights. However, the chocolate that is most helpful for this is not the typical dark chocolate but instead one that is higher in flavonols. Consumers will have to go through a different process in order to be able to purchase this chocolate as it is hard to find at the store.
As you can see, there are benefits from eating chocolate. However, it is important to keep in mind that overeating chocolate is not good for you. Overeating chocolate can cause you to have elevated blood sugar levels as well as weight gain.
