fat reduction program. Also, consuming green tea may not be suitable for everyone as it can
result side effects in few people. So, consult a doctor to take suggestion whether you can
consume green tea or not!
Green Tea
Like different types of teas, green tea as well is extracted from a plant called Camellia
Sinesis. However, this tea does not require so much processing as the other teas require,
hence it is high in antioxidants. Benefits of green tea include
- Helps to lose weight and belly fat
- Reduces the risks associated with heart ailments
- Improves your memory
- Helps in preventing cancer
- You can take green tea either the same way you take any other tea or you can even go for
Capsule forms of green tea. However, there hasn’t been any research evidence that shows the
effects of green tea on or its health benefits.
Green Tea and Weight Loss
Though there haven’t been any magic pills, beverages or foods that can melt belly fat
without the need of proper exercise and diet, consuming green tea may be useful. The natural
ingredients found in green tea known as polyphenols – specially, catechins – can boost up
your metabolism and can help in burning your body fat, as per the reports from University
of Maryland Medical Center. The results are better in those who are moderately obese or
over obese. The suggested intake of green tea is 2 to 3 cups per day, or to take 100 to 750 mg
green tea extract.
Catechins Benefits
According to the study by “Journal of Nutrition” in 2009, though catechins in green tea can
help you burn your belly fat, to lose a significant quantity of fat, it needs to be combined
with a good exercise regimen. Obese and overweight adults that took part in exercising along
with intake of beverage that contained 39 mg caffeine and 625 mg of catechins for about 12
weeks has lost more fat, specifically in the belly region, than those that exercised but did not
consume the beverage. People with too much belly fat can raise the risks of chronic diseases
more than in those who have excess fat in other parts of the body.
Safety
Both caffeine and green tea are safe to take. However, both of these can lead to health
problems in some cases. Not everyone has same level of sensitivity to caffeine, and for few a
little amount of caffeine or green tea can cause irritability, insomnia, nervousness and other
symptoms too.
Breast feeding mothers and pregnant women, and those people with high cholesterol, diabetes,
heart disease, eye problems, bleeding disorders, any chronic illness or liver diseases should
consume green tea only under the supervision of a doctor.
