Coffee As A Drug?

While coffee both smells and tastes delicious, you may not realize that it is in fact quite bad for your body. The reason coffee can be considered a mind altering drug is due to the amount of caffeine that can be found it this particular beverage.
Because caffeine is such a commonly used ingredient we often times do not recognize it for what it is, a mind altering drug. Coffee is not the only culprit as caffeine can also be found in soda, tea and some over the counter medicines. However, larger amounts of caffeine are found in coffee.
You may begin wondering if coffee is indeed bad for you or if there is a possibility that it can be helpful.  There are mixed reviews on this subject from research. One study may show that it can cause heart attacks while another study may show that it can reduce the risk of diabetes. On the other hand several nutritionists have stated that drinking coffee has the potential to wear on adrenal glands, causes aging and also all sorts of other damage to our cells.
You must also keep in mind the fact that coffee and caffeine can and does affect people differently. Foods and beverages containing caffeine can be only slightly addictive for some. When cutting out caffeine a number of people may experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches while others may be able to stop cold turkey with out experiencing noticeable affects.
One of the major side effects of drinking too much coffee is the fact that it can interfere with sleep. People who drink coffee or tea later in the day may also begin to suffer from insomnia as well. This can start a vicious cycle in which you may begin drinking more and more coffee in an attempt to fight off fatigue.
Regardless of whether coffee is bad or good for you, it is still detrimental to your health. You may even begin to crave treats that are high in sugar and will soon find that you are packing on the pounds. You will also have crashes in energy which will leave you heading back to the coffee pot only after a few hours.
To help fight the impulses of coffee you should try getting up and moving around to help wake your brain back up.
