Change Your Eating Habit Now !

Every day, you have many choices to make about food like what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. What about your choices? How often do you eat foods that are healthy or foods that will lead to your health problem unconsciously? All these are due to your eating habits which will determine your level of wellness.

Healthy nutrition is built upon balance, variety, and moderation. This means enjoying many different types of foods in moderate portions and also including your favourite foods. Sometimes you would wonder why does your friends who eat the same amount you eat everyday but she or he never grow fat? The answer is because a healthy diet can help prevent consuming too many calories, or too much of any one nutrient (fats etc), or too much single food (pizza). You might not notice but She/he might consume carbohydrate food (rice,bread,potato) but feast more on other non carbohydrate food.

The college years often change one’s eating habit. Thus, if she/he cannot control himself, it would lead to a permanent change which will lead to very unhealthy lifestyle. At that point of life, students have more freedom to choose what to eat instead of family’s proper cooked meals. Many other factors such as long study hours, stress, class attendance and part-time jobs often interfere with normal eating patterns. As a result of busy schedules (some might due to pure laziness), college students are becoming more dependent on fast foods, delivery services, and vending machines to satisfy appetite and supply energy to the body.

So how do you prevent your son/daughter or yourself into BIG TROUBLE ?

I list the 3 important things you need to do

First – THE 80/20 RULE

The 80/20 rule states that if you eat a variety of nutritious foods 80 percent of the time, you can eat whatever you want for the remaining 20 percent and not feeling guilty. Trust me, when you really did fulfil the 80% rule who would consume less for the 20 percent because you are already satisfied. You won’t be begging for more junk food. So how do you actually do it? There are many other ways that could help you to eat variety of food as your mind could come out with many excuses. I’ll just leave the thinking to you but I’ll provide you an example. You could eat with your friends who cooks at home and of course ! offering them to wash and share the expenses of the meal. They would love too as the more the merrier and it is cheaper to cook for a few instead for a person. This could also apply to you if you are a student living together with your housemate. Try to cook and eat together, it is fun, easier and cheaper. KISS ( keep it simple stupid )

Second – If you drink Alcohol Beverages, Do So In Moderation

Alcoholic beverages supply calories (1 gram = 7 calories) , but offer no known health benefits. Many health problems are linked to the excess use of drinking alcohol, including and it takes an average guy in the gym to burn out 300 calories in 1 hour. And for your comparison, a four finger bars KIT-KAT has 233 calories. Amazing !! by eating just one of that you will need to go to gym for 1 hours. The above is just a simple guideline.

Third – Strategies for reducing Deitary Fat

1) Consume more grains, vegetables, and fruits.
2) Stick to recommended servings for meats
3) Substitute skim milk for whole milk
4) Remove chicken skin before cooking or eating
5) Substitute low-fat yogurt or sherbet for ice crease
6) Purchase only lean meat cuts and trim visible fats.
7) Grill, bake, or broil instead of frying
8) Use egg whites and limit egg yolks.
9) Limit salad dressing.
10) Limit high-fat snacks and desserts
11) Have meatless meals once or twice a week
12) Avoid single food (pizza)
